Welcome to MagicalMallards!

This website is about the 5 wild mallard ducks we raised at home in the summer of 2015, and their ongoing stories.

7-week-old mallard ducks

Our five mallards at almost 7 weeks of age.

Here you will find stories, musings, photos and videos of a family of 5 mallard ducks we hatched and raised at home after discovering an abandoned nest in our garden.

Older blog entries are currently being re-created from notes I made in 2015 and 2016 and are still ongoing. I am backdating them to their original dates, so check back frequently for new content even if you don’t see any indication of “new” posts!

If you like what you see here, or have a story or photo to share about your ducks or other feathered friends, do leave me a comment!

UPDATE (10 Mar 2017): Two of the ducks returned in spring 2016 to nest, and one is currently back for the 2nd year in a row with her beau in tow.

Update (July 2016) : Two of our female ducks returned in the spring this year to nest. One is currently raising a brood of 8 ducklings and the other a brood of 10! They are unfortunately hiding out at the creek where we can’t keep tabs on them to know if they are all still alive; only time will tell!
